Is Marble a Good Countertop Option?
Marble - a beautiful, one of a kind, natural stone that has been sourced for many, many years. Clients often ask if marble is a durable option for countertops.
I always have to give a very long answer, describing its properties and the care it requires. Marble is one of my personal favourites. I believe a marble countertop is truly one of a kind piece that will make the space very personal and unique.
I do have to point out that marble requires more love and care than any other material.
Marble is a very porous stone and will stain/etch if not sealed and cared for. Often times, even if it is sealed, the etching will still take place, depending on the acid level of the stain.
Good news is, there is a lot of new advances that are on the market that will protect the stone. One of them is a very thin, thick plastic wrap that is adhered to the stone (think of a car wrap to protect from stone chips, similar idea). This will protect the stone and eliminate any etching/staining.
When selecting a marble for your kitchen or bathroom, a client must acknowledge and accept that the marble will age and grow with the house, showing its use and imperfections. After all, nothing beats a beautiful marble, even if it shows a little bit of its age.
